PLB Segment Update
Effective June 3rd, 2026 changes will be implemented to the creation of DOL OWCP Pharmacy 835 Electronic Remittance Advice.
The Provider-Level Balance (PLB) segment will be updated to help improve reconciliation of recoupment transactions.
The PLB segment data elements will be updated as outlined below.
PLB01 (Reference Identification)
This data element will contain the dispensing pharmacy's NCPDP.
PLB03-2 (Reference Identification)
This data element will contain the following information, pipe-delimited:
- POS Transaction Authorization Number (PBM-TCN)
- Prescription Number (RX-NUMBER)
- Fill Date (FILL-DATE)

Trading partners should ensure their systems can accept and store the updated reference data sent in the PLB segment.

All other data fields in the PLB segment, as well as other segments and loops in the 835, are unchanged.

Transactions created prior to the effective date will continue to follow the existing PLB reference structure.
